Haulier blasts over-zealous How is your firm damper after E250 toilet stop coping in 2010?

A YORKSHIRE HAULIER says he is disgusted by motorway service operator Roadchef after one of his trucks was clamped at Sandbach MSA within seconds of his driver stopping to use the toilet.

The incident occurred on 4 March, when a driver working for Brocklehurst Transport stopped at the Mh services.

Since the truck parking area was full. including a car parked in the middle of a truck bay, the driver ended up stopping in the coach parking area.

His digital tacho shows he stopped at 9.27 — the dampers waited barely a minute before targeting the truck at 9.28 and levying a 1250 release fee.

Dave Webster, MD of Brocklehurst, acknowledges that the driver broke the MSA's parking rules, but says the dampers refused to target the car.

He adds: "Are our drivers meant to stop on the motorway hard shoulder and go under their trailers?"

Brocklehurst is appealing against the release fee. Roadchef says it cannot comment on individual cases, but stresses that safety reasons prevent HGVs from parking in the coach park.
