There is help to protect your assets

I WAS REALLY pleased to see the thoughtprovoking article on security risks headlined `Clime busters' in CM (25 February).

The article was well thought-out, and raises an issue some of us have been aware of for many years — the industry does not give enough consideration to protecting their staff and property through security training.

There appears to he an element of either "it won't happen to me" or "there is nothing I can do about it. If we are going to be targets we are going to be targets."

Neither of these schools of thought contribute anything to cutting the appalling level of criminal attacks made on our hardwon property and hard-working staff. The police will confirm that crime is a fact of life in our communities, and that it can never be eradicated totally.

However, it can be diverted, and that is what is happening with the rise in crimes affecting our livelihoods Other likely targets have improved their awareness of security issues, leaving hauliers/ drivers as the next weak link in the chain.

The Road Haulage Association has been active in encouraging hauliers to fight back and protect themselves.

Remember, help is at hand for those who are willing to take it.
