Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THREE KENT MEN have been jailed for a total of 37 years for drug offences following two separate Customs investigations.

Martin Seager, of Rainham, was sentenced to 13 years and Ian Denny of Bexley got six years for importing cannabis. Roger Kirby, of Ramsgate, was also sentenced to eight years' imprisonment for importing cannabis and 10 years for importing ecstasy, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Canterbury Crown Court heard how Customs officers stopped a truck driven by Kirby at Ramsgate in June 2002.A subsequent examination led to the detection of 55kg of ecstasy tablets.

In November 2002 Seager and Denny were arrested after 390kg of cannabis was found at the SeagersTransport yard in Maidstone.

Following this case Kirby, who was already on bail for the first offence, was arrested at his home address. His involvement in the cannabis seizure concerned the swapping of trailers with Denny on the Continent.

Customs' chief investigation officer Steve Mackay. says: -The severity of these offences indicates the serious view taken by the Courts of attempts to smuggle drugs into the UK, via the South-Eastern ports, and Customs' determination to investigate and prosecute all importations of illegal drugs.

"These two detections have kept a huge quantity of drugs from reaching the streets of the UK."
