• TNT Express Delivery, Red Star's Coventry-based contractor Roadexpress and Red Star managers, considering a buy-out package, are among those expressing an interest in bidding for parts of Red Star - sale details are published later this month.
Arrival deal • Creegan Home Deliveries has taken over the seven trucks, lease of land and goodwill of Weston-SuperMare-based Arrival Transport. The deal had stalled when owner Creegan found a third party was involved in the trucks' finance.
On hold • Thamesport has suspended plans for a new bulk cargo terminal for coal imports at the port's container facility at the Isle of Grain, Kent because of spare capacity elsewhere. Political uncertainty over coal was also blamed.
Cowie dealers • Motor group T Cowie is to take on up to 20 more dealerships this year in a "significant" expansion of business. Sales at its contract hire operation were boosted 17% last year.
Spoil spoils • Haulage companies are being invited to tender for a contract to remove spoil from a new £1.4m factory development by David McClean (Contractors) of Flint which has been awarded a £1.4m contract.
Bigger boats • An increase in freight capacity on the Heysham/Warrenpoint crossing is to be introduced in June by Merchant Ferries with two new ships capable of holding 105 trailers.
