On the passenger front E. A. Lairkson, chairman of the Premier Travel Group has been elected chairman of the Road Operators' Safety Council for 1977. Mr Lainson, representing the Coach and Independent Bus Sector of the Confederation of British Road Passenger Transport, has served on the Road Operators' Safety Council from 1958, and now succeeds J. Niblock of the National Bus Company who has occupied the Chair of the Council for the last three years.

Leslie Latter has been appointed director general of Merseyside Transport. Mr Latter took up his new job on March 1 and has been the MPTE's director of finance and administration for the past three years. He succeeds Arthur Moffatt, aged 60., who has retired.

Terence Shapcott has been appointed public relations officer for the Southern Region of the National Bus Company. He succeeds Brian Cooper, who has become NBC's group manager — public relations.

London Transport announced this week that Haron Hitlel has been appointed principal dynami cist. He will be responsible for analytical and experimental work on problems associated with London Transport's buses and underground trains.

Terence Prince has been appointed director, sates and marketing, Chrysler United Kingdom Limited. Mr Prince, previously director of marketing investment for Chrysler Europe, succeeds Gordon Pfeiffer, who was recently appointed executive director, car sales and marketing — Europe.

Jim Howe 33, has been appointed area sales manager at the Bristol depot of Trist Draper, manufacturers of Top-Dog brake and clutch linings.

Also at Trist Draper, Peter Crosland has been appointed sales manager responsible for UK and overseas original equipment and public service vehicle accounts. Previously he was product manager concerned with in-oil friction materials for original equipment accounts. Mr Crosland joined Trist Draper in 1969 as a UK sales engineer selling dry friction materials.
