Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

0 new, close-coupled, four-wheeled car-transporter trailers have been announced by RM Trailers. Introduced to overcome the problem of loading the wider cars, such as the Mk. 10 Jaguar, Rolls-Royce and Bentley on to trailers having wheel boxes, the trailer has two capacities—as the 4P40W it is 2 tons and as the 4P50W it is 2.5 tons.

To load any of the above vehicles on to a high platform is difficult because of the possibility of the length of front and rear overhang fouling either the ramps or the ground. The new design overcomes this problem by utilizing a platform with a downswept rear end which can be tilted during the loading process. When returned to the running position the low-loader-type wheels protrude slightly through the platform. With the platform tilted and the extra-long braced-lightweight ramps in position, a straight line incline of 1 in 8 results.

Constructed throughout from hollow rectangular-section mildsteel undertrussed to prevent flexing and incorporating independent rubber suspension units, the trailer provides good riding characteristics together with a low unladen weight.

The platform comprises two wide, galvanized expanded metal tracks providing good drainage and grip. The area between the tracks is covered with a removable wooden panel to allow under-car access. A wheeled dolly is offered as an option to facilitate the loading of damaged vehicles. Clip-on mudshields are provided to be fitted after a vehicle is loaded.

Braking is by overrun-powered units at all wheels and a vacuum servo is supplied as an option. The company offers a six-week delivery.
