The announcement last week that Leslie G. Watson had been appointed to the board of Tecalemit Ltd. was not correct. The company should have read Telamite Ltd. J. W. Shirley, director and general manager of Park Royal Vehicles Ltd., has been elected president of the Institute of British Carriage and Automobile Manufacturers in succession to A. Jeffrey, director of James B. Stevenson Ltd., who now becomes immediate past-president.

Elections for the year 1966-7 in RHA Northern Area sub-areas included the following:— Barrow-in-Furness sub-area: K. Surphlis, chairman; R. Vickers, vice-chairman. Bishop Auckland sub-area: C. Ranaldi, chairman; D. Robinson and J. Crowther, vice-chairmen.

Sir David EL Burnett, chairman of the Proprietors of Hay's Wharf Ltd., flew to Cape Town on Monday for a 10-day South African visit. He will contact South African importers with a view to offering comprehensive handling and storage services from British manufacturers' production-line ends to any South African destination. A similar service would apply in reverse.

E. W. Hallwood has been appointed managing director of William Harper and Sons Ltd., haulage contractors, of Liverpool. Mr. Hallwood moves from the position of North-Western contracts branch manager for British Road Services, a position he had held since 1959. He was previously manager of the Liverpool city branch of BRS.

Richard Bennett Gosling has been elected chairman of A. W. Chapman Ltd., manufacturers of Leveroll seat mechanisms. He succeeds John MacNish, who has retired on medical advice.

George K. Thompson, manager (marketing) of Gulf Eastern Company, London, has been elected vice-president (marketing) of this wholly owned subsidiary of Gulf Oil Corporation. Mr. Thompson joined Gulf in 1947.

K. G. Alien has been appointed chief engineer of Seymour Plant (Northern) Ltd., a newly created post. Mr. Allen was formerly with John Laing (Construction) Ltd.

OBITUARY We regret to record the death of T. L. Garner. Mr. Garner was a co-founder of Precision Rubbers Ltd., which began operations in 1949. He was managing director until 1963 and then became chairman. He was also a director of John Bull Rubber Co. Ltd. and Metalastik Ltd., and technical adviser to the John Bull Group. Mr. Garner was 63.
