TF tolls were shown to be "an inhibitor of -Iindustrial development", he was absolutely certain the Scottish Secretary would wish to review the position, said Dr. J. Dickson Mabon, the Scottish Under Secretary, in the Commons last week.
He was replying to MPs who had expressed alarm at reports that commercial vehicles might have to pay a 10s. toll when crossing the Tay Bridge.
But Dr. Mabon refused to say what tolls were planned—he was not responsible for what newspapers said, he commented. The proposed schedule of charges would have to be published, and it would be wrong for him to be dragged into discussing the merits of this or that with reference to tariffs for commercial lorries or private vehicles.
