TC halts inquiry as interpreter is needed

THREE OUT OF four linked operators faced sanctions at an inquiry before West Midland Deputy Traffic Commissioner Miles Dorrington. However, the inquiry was adjourned because the fourth required an interpreter. The Brierley Hill foursome had breached drivers' hours rules; used an unauthorised operating centre: and had poor maintenance histories.

After hearing financial evidence in private. the DTC suspended the two-vehicle licence held by lagtar Singh Grewal, in the name of Zaildar Haulage, and the fourvehicle licence held by Avtar Singh Grewal. trading as Zaildar Transport, for six months or until evidence was produced showing they satisfied the financial standing requirement. He gave Partap Singh seven days in which to produce similar documentary evidence in relation to his application for a new five-vehicle licence. He revoked the two-vehicle licence held by Jagiar Singh Grewal, in the name of Pensnett Super Store.

Adjourning the proceedings until July to ensure the attendance of an interpreter, the DTC said Partap Singh was struggling to understand the proceedings because of his poor English.

The DTC said he was not happy with the conduct of Balvinder Singh, who had failed to attend, and expected him to be present on the next occasion.

The DTC warned that he would not tolerate any operator using an unauthorised operating centre, and would like VOSA to look at a month's recent tachograph charts to see if vehicles were parked at their authorised operating centre.
