IN a sequel to prosecutions by Cheshire County Council weights and measures department earlier this year, when fines and costs in excess of £2,000 were imposed by Widnes magistrates on tipper operators for overloading (CM February 6), a number were called before the North Western LA, Mr R. D. Hutchings, at Manchester.

He expressed grave concern about the times vehicles had been overloaded and at operators having continued to overload after they knew offences were being committed.

All the operators were warned that their licences would be revoked if there were further offences.

The operators had been carrying soil from Kirby to Widnes and Huyton for civil engineering work and the loads weighed from one to 5 tons. In mitigation it was said that the offences were largely due to the fact that the contract required payment by the ton for the amount carried.
