Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Some road junctions are soon to be equipped with new, small roundabouts. A new traffic sign, having three white arrows forming a circular shape on a round blue background, will show that the junction has a small central island, between one and four yards in diameter, painted white and sometimes raised slightly above the carriageway. The central white mark will be surrounded by three white arrows on the carriageway indicating the clockwise direction.

Experiments by the Road Research Laboratory have shown that this arrangement can greatly increase the capacity of some junctions. In future, says the DoE, many roundabouts are likely, .to have smaller central islands with more road space for circulating vehicles and more lanes marked on the entries to avoid unnecessary queueing.

The rules for drivers approaching the new roundabouts are the same as for conventional roundabouts; traffic will give way to vehicles coming from the immediate right, unless road markings indicate otherwise.
