Sir John Davies, K.C.B., of the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., on Tuesday opened a large extension of the premises of W. Harold Perry, Ltd., Invicta Works, North Finchley, London, N.12. The Mayor of Finchley and Mr. John Crowder, the Finchley Member of Parliament, were also present, whilst Mr. H. Perry, governing director, was in the chair, Founded in 1908, this company has grown rapidly, and now its works cover an area of two acres. The extension consists mainly of two bays, one for commercial vehicles, the other for cars. They are separated by a stores, from which parts can be drawn on both sides. No less than £12,000 worth of spares are held in stock.

Hull's Trolleybuses on the Way.

Last week, Hull Corporation took delivery of the first of its 26 trolleybuses ordered from Leyland Motors, Ltd., and it is understood that the rest will follow at the rate of two per week. Field-regulated controls are being •ineluded in 25 of the machines, whilst the other will have regenerative-rheostatic braking. Automatic brake adjusters, cab-mounted equipment and good interior illumination are common to all

the vehicles. The 56-seater doubledeck bodies are being built by the MC. W. concern.

By-pass to Avoid Steep Devon Hill.

The steep hill, sharp corners and restricted space on the road through Pilton, near Barnstaple, North Devon, will be avoided by the building of a one-mile by-pass road, . at a cost of £34,600, and a grant has been made to Devon County Council for'the work..

Pilton is on the road. from Barnstaple to Lynton, and, during the summer season, the traffic averages about Lop() vehicles a day. The byj pass will probably be available for traffic in the summer of 1939, French Fuel Trials.

• The technical committee of the Automobile Club of France, in conjunction with the French Office. National des Combustibles Liquides, is planning to organize, in November next, a trial of producer-gas equipment for motor vehicles. With the patronage of the French Minister of War, it is also proposed to hold a trial of vehicles using compressed coal gas.

King Buys Shooting Brake.

His Majesty the King has ordered a new Daimler shooting brake, Which will he delivered before his visit to Bal moral in the summer. It will be finished in the natural wood and give accommodation for 10 people. Its equipment will include a folding luncheon table along the centre and speci ally fitted gun racks. • Death of Newark Haulier.

Mr. Thomas. W. Garner, a director of T. W. Garner, Ltd., 'sack contractor and haulier, of Newark, Notts, died last week.
