ACOMBINATION of modern features is found on the Loadmaster 800TC mobile shovel produced

by the Chaseside Engineering Co., Ltd., Hertford. A Fordson 61.5-b.h.p. oil engine drives the large-diameter front wheels through a torque converter, and steering of the rear wheels is power-assisted.

Layout of the controls is the result of time and motion study, and the machine is designed for ease of maintenance. The carrying capacity of the scoop is 2,800 lb., and loads can be discharged at a height of 9 ft. 5 in.

A rear-wheel-drive machine of similar capacity is the Loadmaster 700, which also has power-assisted steering. The height of discharge is 9 ft. 2 in. The company also offer the Hopto, a hydraulic swing shovel for mounting on a lorry. Torqueconverter transmission and power-assisted steerinrare featured by the Chaseside 800TC.

Safety Device ONE of the features of the sliding doors for buildings made by G. Brady and Co., Ltd., Manchester, 4, is a floor plate which may be provided to break' the control circuit should a small child become trapped between two sections as a door is opened. The glass is held by a rubber ring which permits quick rcpiaccment if necessary, Polyester Dough KNOWN as Rockite K501, a polyester III-dough moulding compound produced by British Resin Products, Ltd., Devonshire House, Piccadilly, London, W.1,

may be used for the manufacture of bodywork components arid fittings. It is stated to flow easily and to cure rapidly at low pressures to give mouldings of high impact strength and heat stability.

The compound is supplied unpig/rented, or in black and a small range of colours, in the form of a fibrous dough. The shelf life is about three months.

Producing Oxygen

IDLANT for producing oxygen that may be mounted on a prime mover or a trailer has been• evolved by British Oxygen Gases, Ltd., Spencer House, St. James's Place, London, SW.!. An air compressor may be driven either by mains electricity or an oil engine. and two. soda-lime purifiers arc incorporated to remove carbon dioxide.

Cooled air passes through activated alumina to reduce the dewpoint, and it is subsequently cooled and liquefied. Oxygen of 99.5 per cent. purity may be produced in transportable plants, of which one design, with a capacity of 150 cu. ft. per hr., can be mounted on a six-wheeled chassis.

Pants for producing 1,000 cu. ft. per hr. measure 20 ft. long, 7 ft. 6 in, wide and 8 ft. 6.in. high and require to be mounted on trailers or skids because of their weight, approximately 11 tons.

High-torque Motor

N4AINTA1NIN0 constant torque al between 0-50 r.p.m., a hydraulic motor produced by Chamberlain Industries, Ltd., Staffa Road, London, E.10, is stated to be suitable for driving hoists, winches, conveyors or similar machinery requiring high torque at low speeds. The motor has five radial cylinders each of 4-in, bore with a 3-in, stroke, and has been designed to work at a pressure of 1,500 p.s,i.

The crankcase is split into halves around the .periphery to facilitate assembly. One end of the crankcase houses the pintle-type valve which is driven from the crankshaft. The cylinder heads are integral units clamped between the halves of the crankcase, and which have cast inlet ports feeding the oil to the top. These ports also serve as outlets when are pistons return.
