A HAULAGE company operating 21 1-1. vehicles were granted an additional A-licence lorry by Mr. S. W. Nelson, Western Licensing Authority, after it had been stated that it would be used only

as a maintenance replacement. The company were J. Smith (Bicknor), Ltd., English Bicknor (Glos), who had asked for two vehicles on the same basis.

Opposing the application, Mr. George Reed, of G. Reed (Transport), Ltd., said if two . eight wheelers w ere allowe d, there was nothing to preven t Smith's keeping two small vehicles in their depot and regularly operating the replacements. Other objectors were the British Transport Commission.

Mr. T. D. Corpc, for Smith's, said it was surprising that Mr. Reed should object, as he had recently secured a grant similar to that which Smith's were seeking.

Granting one vehicle, Mr. Nelson said he was disregarding any grant made to Mr. Reed. It would be unreasonable to allow two eight. wheelers as replacements.
