Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A16-POINT formula for the inspection of vehicles has been drawn up by the RHA, TRTA, and Motor Agents Association in North Lancashire (as forecast in COMMERCIAL MOTOR of January 28). At a meeting last week the three associations agreed that vehicle inspections would cover the following: Engine; clutch; main gearbox; auxiliary gearbox; transmission; front axle and steering; rear axle; brakes; springs and suspension; chassis; frame and fittings; electrical system; wheels and tyres; body and cab; general condition of lubrication; road test.

This formula will be considered by the North Western traffic area goods vehicle maintenance committee and representatives of the MAA at a meeting in Manchester on February 15.

At this meeting it is expected that the cost of inspections and the names of garages prepared to carry out the examinations will be decided.

After a trial period in North Lancashire the operators' associations hope the scheme will be expanded throughout the North Western traffic area.

Inspections are expected to be on a time basis, probably every three months.
