Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AMERICAN COMPONENTS FOR RUNNING GEAR BY arrangement with the RockwellStandard Corporation, of Detroit, Rubery. Owen and Co. Ltd. are to produce suspension units incorporating single taperleaf springs at their Warrington and Toronto factories. When fitted with taper-leaf springs the M series suspension offers savings in unladen weight of 341 lb.

The first Rubery Owen/RockwellStandard unit to be used in the UK has been fitted to a lightweight coil-carrier chassis produced recently by Duramin Engineering (Lydney) Ltd. The semi-trailer is designed and plated for operation at 32 tons g.t.w. and has a carrying capacity of 22 tons. Tubeless tyres are fitted and these, together with the single-leaf springs, combine to make a weight saving of almost 5 cwt. when compared with conventional tyres and suspensions.

Rubery Owen also announces production of a version of its tandem-axle running gear which is suitable for European requirements. Both the M series suspension units are similar in design to the current R series but have a number of refinements included. These are a new type of Econolastic bush and eight-leaf springs. There is a weight saving of approximately 129 lb. over the current R36 design.

A third suspension known as the E series retains the advantages afforded by the R series but incorporates alterations to the location of the radius rods employed to position the axles. These have been positioned in a manner counteracting the effects of roll-steer which has in the past tended to produce misalignment of axles and thus tyre scrub. New rubber bushes incorporate heavy steel bonded inserts, which allow the correct torque to be applied to the fixing bolt with no danger of damaging the bush or the housings.

It is offered fitted either with 120 mm. square axle beams or 5 in.-diameter tubular

beams and the axle spread has been standardized at 1.35 at.

Axle spread is again standardized at 1.35 m. and the axle spring seats are manu factured to suit either 120 m. square axles or 5.5 in.-diameter beams.

This suspension is equipped with 12-leaf springs and has a rating of 44,900 lb.
