Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

as Thurrock project stalls

By Roger Brown A NEW TRUCKSTOP near Dover, Kent, with the capacity for 100 vehicles is due to open this month, but progress on a secure parking area at Thurrock. Essex, has stalled.

The overnight facility, based in Menzies Road, Port Zone, is three miles from Dover port and boasts CCTV and an automatic number plate recognition system.

There is also an American-style diner, a trucker's shop operated by truck and driver accessories specialist CDC and washroom facilities, including hot showers.

Neal Williams, managing director of the owners, Priority Freight, says: "We're convinced that there is a demand for this kind of secure and comfortable overnight truckstop.

"With the undoubted increase in the targeted theft of high-value loads, transport managers want the peace of mind provided by a totally secure site with really good facilities for their drivers."

Operators wishing to become account holders at the truck stop can call Williams on 01304 828111.

Meanwhile, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has expressed its concern over a lack of progress in developing a secure lorry park in Thurrock, Essex, with nearby ports Tilbury and Shell Haven currently undergoing radical development and expansion.

RHA infrastructure manager Chrys Rampley says: "This will bring more traffic to the area, so it is essential that secure facilities are put in place as a matter of urgency.

-The ports will eventually provide parking facilities for HGVs, but these are long-term plans. it is essential that we see something done now."

• A 20-space overnight truck park at Junction 7 Business Park has opened. The truck park is located about 100 yards off the M65 at Blackburn Road, Accrington, and it boasts 24-hour security, patrols and CCTV.

The site, which is managed by estate agent Savills, hopes to offer 60 HGV spaces in 2009.
