FRANS MAAS IS not the only purchase to add to DSV's road freight business. The ABX deal increases its presence in Italy, Spain, France and Germany and, to some degree, the UK. "By combining the operations we will have less infrastructure to cope with the volumes because we will be amalgamating that infrastructure," Rene Falch Oleson, DSV road managing director, adds.
From a UK perspective, some acquisitions happen without any input from the regional divisions, others are included in the process and some, such as Roadferry, are undertaken by the UK business, but "we need approval from Copenhagen". Whatever way the acquisition takes shape, Falch OlesenS job is to bring the two businesses together in the best possible way for the firm in the UK.
"For ABX, I will build a plan with a team from DSV and ABX. It's a delicate process. There will be people leaving and offices may close, and some things cannot be done until all the staff have been moved to the same location," he says.
"We try to cut all the politics and be honest with the staff and make the integration as easy as possible for the customers." Only when that process is complete, he adds. will the company look to the next challenge.
