• Christian Salvesen's UK logistics operation boosted its profits by 11% to £20.9m in the six months to the end of September, with a turnover of £235m.
The logistics division, which includes Swift Service, along with UK controlled-temperature work and consumer activities, pushed up its profit margin from 8.5% to 8.9% with £20m worth of new business, including contracts with Vauxhall, the Daily Mail and SP Tyres.
Christian Salvesen chief executive Edward Roderick reports that the company has experienced delays in building new sites at Rowley, near Birmingham and Thatcham in London: they are due to come on line next summer.
