II When Swanseabased Robbins & Sons Removals appeared at a Cardiff disciplinary inquiry it blamed its maintenance problems on illness among its fitters.
Terry Vaux, for Robbins, which held a licence for 20 vehicles and 20 trailers, told South Wales Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh that a prohibition notice showing a significant maintenance failure was issued after the vehicle concerned had not been re-inspected after rectification work had been carried out.
The fitting staff had been under pressure because of absence due to illness. He promised that the whole of the company's fleet would be put through fresh annual tests before the end of the year.
Cutting the number of vehicles on the licence from 20 to 18, Mervyn Pugh said it was disappointing to see a company like Robbins fall by the wayside. However, under the circumstances he felt that he only needed to take minimal action against the licence.
