• Bandvulc's Premium remould tyres are outperforming equivalent new tyres by almost 100%, according to WWB Devon Clays.

The Bandvulc ZY is said to be achieving mileages of between 41,000 and 55,000, compared with 22,000-30,000 miles from a new tyre of the same pattern.

This has reduced Devon Clays' tyre costs to 35-38p/mile, compared with 69-88p/mile for the equivalent new tyre four-life system.

These figures, which are the results of a two-year study, have encouraged Devon Clays to switch from using new tyres to Bandvulc remoulds. The ZY is used in the company's fleet of 20 tippers; Devon Clays participates in Banclvulc's Triple C computerised casing bank, building up credits for returned casings and drawing off retreads as required.

Devon Clays' divisional engineering manager John Simmons says: "We would not be prepared to sacrifice quality for short-term financial gain. We also consider that Bandvulc's excellent customer support, including the monthly detailed reporting system, is of value to us in monitoring performance and maintaining standards."
