We regret to record the deaths of Mr. H. Firth, Mr. W. McLaren and Mr. W. Smith.

Mr. Firth, who was head and founder of Roadway Services of Huddersfield, died last week at the age of 63, He was one of the earliest members of the National Conference of Road Transport Clearing Houses and had been on the national council since its inception. He was chairman of the North Eastern area for a number of years and had been a vice-president for the past six years or so. Mr. Firth was also honorary secretary of the Huddersfield sub-area of the Road Haulage Association for 20 years.

Mr. McLaren, one of three brothers who founded the Belford (Northumberland) firm of McLaren, haulage contractors, has died at the age of 80.

Mr. Smith, a prominent Stoke-onTrent haulier, has died at the age of 58. He had been in the transport business at his native Cowbridge all his working life. He leaves a son, Mr. Donald Smith, who is a director of the firm of W. Smith (Cowbridge) Ltd., and the proprietor of W. Smith and Son Transport.
