Pickfords Ltd. will be filled by Mr. E. Gordon Milne, at present north-eastern area heavy haulage manager. Mr. J. G. Arnold, assistant general manager of Pickfords, is leaving the company to take up an appointment with Associated Deliveries Ltd., on January 1. Mr. A. T. Irving, at present Scottish area heavy haulage manager of Pickfords, has been appointed assistant chief heavy haulage manager, northern, with his office at Birmingham. Mr. S. Bowskill, Midland area heavy haulage manager, will relinquish his appointment at the end of this year to enter the engineering industry.

• Mr. R. F. Bennett, general manager of Bolton Corporation Transport since 1959, was this week recommended by Manchester's transport committee as general manager at Manchester on the retirement of Mr. A. F. Neal, which is due to take place next April. Before going to Bolton Mr. Bennett was general manager and engineer at Great Yarmouth for about a year and previous to this had been deputy general manager at Plymouth from 1955 to 1958.

Clr. Alexander Nisbet, of Edinburgh, has been appointed a deputy Traffic Commissioner for Scotland. He will serve on the panel of Commissioners who will sit with the new chairman. Mr. A. B. Birnie, when he takes over his appointment on the retirement of Mr. W. F. Quin on December 18. • Mr. D. D. N. Graham, at present manager of Stratford-upon-Avon Blue Motors Ltd., has been appointed assistant traffic manager of Ribble Motor Services Ltd. in succession to Mr. E. W. A. Butcher, who, as previously announced. has been appointed traffic manager.

Mr. J. W. Ridgeon retired last month from the motor department, Shell-Mex and B.P. Ltd. He worked for many years on the design and development of the company's heavy goods vehicles. He introduced several features, such as the engine-driven pump for delivering kerosene and gas-oil, which are now standard equipment, and among other pioneering projects he developed the design of the first vehicle in this country to carry liquefied petroleum gases.

Mr. Leonard Pike has been appointed sales manager of Crosland Filters Ltd., of Nottingham. At present with Simms Motor Units Ltd., Mr. Pike is to maintain his connection with that company, as both Simms Motor Units and Crosland Filters are subsidiaries of Simms Motor and Electronics Corporation Ltd. Mr. H. W. Heyman has resigned from the board of the Smith's Delivery Vehicle Group and will be relinquishing his other directorships and appointments with the subsidiary and associate companies of the group. A spokesman for the company said that the resignation of Mr. Heyman, who was managing director, was a personal matter between himself and his fellow directors.

Mr. B. T. Hancock, at present chief engineer of Southern Vectis Omnibus Co. Ltd., has been appointed chief engineer of West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Ltd. with effect from January 1.

Mr. Eoin Gahan, formerly personal assistant to the Civil Engineer, Westland Row, Dublin, has been appointed traffic engineer to the Dublin City bus services.

Mr. G. Hankins has been appointed a director of the Devon General Omnibus and Touring Co. Ltd. in succession to Mr. F. D. Pattison, who has resigned.

Mr. Dennis E. Hindle has won the special prize awarded annually by the British Electric Traction Co. Ltd. to the candidate who, being an employee of a passenger road transport company in England or Wales, qualifies for the Diploma in Road Transport and has obtained the highest aggregate of marks in any five papers in the Royal Society of Arts examinations in road transport subjects. Mr. Hindle is an inspector at the Burnley depot of Ribble.
