Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A PLASTICS-BODIED two-wheeled trailer with a payload of 12 cwt. has been produced by Reinforced Plastics, Ltd., Bath Lane, Leicester, following successful

tests of a prototype,at towing speeds of up to 100 m.p.h. on Continental roads.

The unit has a Girling over-run braking system and presents a particularly pleasing appearance. It is available as an open-top model with canvas cover, and with a hinged hardtop.

Good suspension characteristics are provided by Bramber rubber independent trailinglink components, on which wheels carrying 5.90 by 13 tyres are mounted. No shock absorbers are fitted.

The welded angle-section steel frame is joined to the body without the use of bolts or rivets, and the plastics material has withstood the vibrations and stresses associated with rough cross-country

running without fracture or the development of cracks. The chassis is based oil a main longitudinal member of back-Whack angle sections. This is extended at the front to act as a towbar, whilst a central cross-bearer of the same form carries the suspension units. Angle sections are also employed for two longitudinal side members. and a transverse bearer at the front and rear.

No other metal is used in the construction of the trailer, apart from the moulded-in mounting slates of the tightalloy binges and support struts of the hardtop model. These obviate the use of through-bolts with external heads, which, would impair the appearance.

A moulded peripheral channel section mates with a rubber strip when the to is closed, to make an effective seal. 'Body reinforcing ribs, based on cardboard formers, are moulded to the main panels. A horizontal rib is formed to the shape of the body at the top and bottom of the main panel, and additional support is provided by four vertical ribs on each side and four external longitudinals under the floor.

The tapered tailboard is fitted with rubber buffers and can be employed as a ramp. A recessed number plate and flasher equipment are wired to a plug on the towbar by leads enclosed in the central member.

One of the most important advantages of employing plastics material ,is that it has enabled a body to be produced with curved corner sections and front panelling without undue cost. The finish of the colour-iinpregnated panels is comparable to that of a first-class painted surface.

• The body is 7 ft. long and 5 ft. 2 in. wide. Capacity of the container section is 56 cu. ft., and the hardtop provides an extra 28 cu. ft. .Unladen weight of the open-top vehicle is about 4 cwt., -whilst; the hardtop increases the weight to 4.1. cwt.

Retail price of the trailer is approximately £150, and the addition of a hardtop brings the coat to £200.
