Next Tuesday, two extraordinary general meetings of A.R.O. will be held at the Hotel Victoria, Northumberland

Avenue, London, W.C.2. The first meeting, which is called for 2.30 p.m., will be for the purpose of electing a new National Council, also to legalize the treatment of the second meeting as the annual general meeting for 1936, notwithstanding anything contained in the articles of association.

The first part of the business of the second meeting, which is scheduled for 4.30 p.m., will be the adoption of the balance-sheet, the election of an auditor for the ensuing year, etc. The meeting will then turn to the consideration of a resolution calling for an agreement for a merger of A.R .0. with the C.M.U.A., provided that any such agreement contains the conditions previously laid down. •

Merger Breakdown Discussed by A.R.O. National Council.

A general discussion on the question of the merger between A.R.O. and the C.M.U.A. took place at a National Council meeting of A.R.O., last Wednesday. A number of left-wing members attended.

As a result of the discussion, it was suggested that the Council should appoint three members, together with the chairman of the Association, and this deputation should seek an interview with the President of the C.M.U.A. and a similar number of members of its National Council. The object of the meeting would be to discuss the difficulties that have arisen concerning the merger of the two associations.

It was agreed that, in the event of the intervie.v taking place, the A.R.O. deputation would include representatives of the left wing. As the C.M.U.A. recently unanimously approved its policy, further negotiations for the merger will, of course, have to be referred to the National Council of that body.
