Against Merger

ARESOLUTION opposing an association merger on present terms was passed at a general meeting of members of the Yorkshire Area of A.R.O., at Leeds, last Sunday. Approximately 300 members were present, and Mr. Robert Barr presided. The meeting was private, but it is understood that the resolution was to the effect that A.R.O. should not continue with further negotiations until the C.M.U.A. intimates in writing its agreement to va.ious points which were originally included in the A.R.O. proposals, but which were not included in the final merger terms.

The resolution, which is understood to have also included an expression of confidence in Mr. R. W. Sewill, national director of A.R.O., is stated to have been carried by a big majority.

It was revealed that the executive committee of A.R.O. Yorkshire Area is split on the merger issue.

Special proxy forms, distinct from those sent out from the national headquarters of A.R.O., have been sent to Yorkshire members for the purpose of proxy voting at the two extraordinary general meetings of A.R.O. in London on December 15.

The proxy forms sent out from the national headquarters bear the names of six members of the National Council, including Mr. Robert Barr, together with a Bristol member and four London members. The Yorkshire proxy forms, circulated with a covering letter over the signatures of Mr. A. H. Butterwick, of Leeds, Mr. J. J. Granter, of Upton, and Mr. J. T. Rodwell, of Wombwell, all Yorkshire members of the National Council, bear the names of Mr. Granter and Mr. Rodwell. These forms were returnable not later than yesterday (Thursday), not to the Yorkshire headquarters of A.R.O., but to Mr. Buttenvick in Leeds.
