MANY VISITORS to the recent Commercial Vehicle Show at Olympia admired the handsome saloon coach which was exhibited by the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., but not all realized that this is actually a convertible type which could be used either as an entirely enclosed vehicle for winter use and for general work in inclement weather, or as an open coach of the ordinary class equipped with the normal type of hood.

The saloon top itself is built as a unit with light ash hoop-sticks reinforced where necessary with metal. The roof is covered with black rubber-proofed material and lined with whipcord. The side windows are all detachable, and have special fasteners which enable them to be quickly removed, whilst, when in position, they are entirely free from vibration, and efficient ventilation is given by making two of the windows at each side in halves, the upper portion of each being permitted to fold down as required. .There,are also two cowl ventilators at the back and an oval window permitting a clear view to the rear.

Ring eyelets are fitted to the roof so that -it can be lifted off and slung up in any convenient position. When the superstructure has been removed a sliding-rail type of hood is fitted to the rear of the vehicle in its place, and the T-section brass rail forming. the slides for this hood act as the main longitudinal supports for the detachable top when this is in position.

Entrance is effected and access given to the seats through a single door at he near-side front and a central gangway. The seats are of the bucket type, and we can testify to the excellence of their springing and general comfort, whilst the backs are covered with pile Carpet to avoid any danger of scratching and to preserve a. neat appearance.

To provide the greatest measure of protection when the vehicle is being used as an open coach, side curtains are supplied with the hood, and a special locker for the accommodation of this is formed under the driver's seat. For the carrying of small bags, etc., there is a large locker or boot on the near side', whilst the spare wheel and tyre are carried in a box built into the body below the back panel. The chassis to which this interesting 'body is fitted is a 28 h.p. type, which has a total carrying capacity, including the body, of 3 tons 5 cwt. The gearbox provides four speeds forward and a reverse, the operating lever being mounted in the cover of the box and arranged for left-hand operation. Final drive is by worm gearing, giving a reduction of 6a to 1.

Particular attention has been paid to the matter of springing. The springs are very long and wide, and are so flexible that, the coach can easily be rocked by one person, although it is quite steady on the road. . The wheels are of the detachable steel disc type fitted with 955 mm. and 155 mm. tyres all round.

The price of the complete vehicle with dynamo lighting is .£975.
