A LIVERPOOL firm has been warned that it could face the loss of its licence following a Golborne public inquiry.

Crown Cold Stores & Distribution and eight of its drivers appeared before North Western TC Beverley Bell because of concerns over vehicle maintenance, drivers' hours and tacho offences, including falsifying tacho records.

Crown Cold Stores & Distribution was formed to take over the work of Crown Cold Stores, trading as Thorb urn International Transport,when that company collapsed in September 2002 (CM 19 Sept 2(X)2). Crown itself was created to take on the work of Thorburn international Transport Ltd, which went bust in 2000 as a result of which its directors, Wal lace Thorburn and his daughter Jeanette Thorbum were disqualified from acting as directors for four and three years respectively.

Bell adjourned the proceedings until September as she felt she had no option after five drivers said they wished to take legal advice. She did not consider the cases could be considered in isolation.

The TC agreed to hear the cases of two drivers who did not wish to take legal advice. However, the hearing against one, Robert Taylor, was also adjourned for further enquiries after he claimed to have no knowledge of a number of convictions.

Driver Andrew Kelsall was given a formal warning after the TC was told that he had committed two hours offences,
