THE SOARING price of diesel may he making some hauliers think twice before they replace vehicles.
-It's an issue that's increasingly being mentioned, and although it's not being raised in every conversation I have with customers, I'm sure it's having an impact," says Ralph Porter of Cardiff Daf."The worry is that the situation doesn't seem lobe stabilising. and I doubt that many of the small hauliers we deal with have a fuel price escalator agreement with their customers.
"A lot of operators are worried about fuel prices, no question about it, especially since half of them aren't making any money anyway," says Joe Gilder of Bourtonon-the-Water,Glos-based independent dealership Peter Gilder & Sons. "The whole industry is on its knees."
