JAMES LOCKHART, managing director of the Transport Development Group and chairman at this year's CM Fleet Management Conference, has been re-appointed as a member of the Standing Committee on Trunk Road Assessment.

Mr Lockhart, a member of Sactra since 1981, has worked in the freight industry for the past 25 years.

The committee has been reconstituted by Transport Secretary Nicholas Ridley, and its first task will be to review the suitability of the Department of Transport's methods of assessing environmental, economic and other effects of urban road improvements.

The committee was set up in 1978 following the Leitch Committee proposals which called for a multi-disciplinary standing advisory committee to advise the Government on appraisal or forecasting methods.
