Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SMITHS Transport Services (Gatwick), its transport manager and six of its drivers appeared before Crawley, Sussex magistrates on summonses that they have made 142 entries on a record sheet while knowing them to be false.

David Benjamin Smith of Crawley (the transport manager), Kenneth Jack Valentine Bowen of Crawley, Colin James Teuton of Charlwood, Surrey, John Percy Pelling of Crawley, Kenneth Roger Wickens of Reigate, and David Thomas of Crawley have not submitted pleas to the summonses which are being pressed by the Metropolitan Traffic Area.

Crawley magistrates had a mode of trial procedure last week and the defendants face commital proceedings on August 30 which could mean that they will have to appear in a Crown Court. The magistrates' chairman said: "These are serious offences and must be dealt with in the Crown Court."
