• To make their first public appearance at the Commercial Motor Show in September are two newly developed products from Reynolds Boughton Ltd, Bell Lane, Amersham, Bucks.

One, named the Packhorse Minor, is a 4 X 4 high-speed, any terrain vehicle and the other a Turnabout demountable body incorporating a new method of rear body alignment.

The Packhorse Minor, with an automatic axle lock out and a 119in. wheelbase, is based on the J1 and J2 Bedford chassis-cab and will be available at £1900.

With a top speed of 75 mph, it is fitted with a 1.53:1 ratio transfer box reduction and full torque pto accessory and has a body and payload capacity of 2.3 to 4.1 tons. The load carrying capacity can be increased with a larger axle and twin rear tyres.

A utility body, measuring 8ft 6in. X 6ft 6in. is available as standard and, in addition, a wide range of bodywork and equipment can be fitted to the chassis to meet individual specifications.

The standard body, to meet the general purpose transportation needs of industrial, commercial and agricultural users, has been designed with options of small centre tailgate or centre rear door, and easily removable hard top canopy, full panelling or side windows.

The new semi-automatic Turnabout system can, it is claimed, be safely operated by one man and incorporates a rear body alignment system which prevents the body being pulled roughly into line while the support legs are in contact with the ground. The strain usually inflicted on chassis components and body leg structure during the lateral alignment of the body is eliminated and damage to the ground surface is prevented as all correction takes place after the legs have been stowed away.

The system is available in lengths from 12ft to 28ft, maximum payload of 15 tons.
