Worksop's Latest Fire-engine.

The Borough of Worksop has recently purchased an interesting Dennis 250400-gallon fire-engine of the inside, or wagonette, type. The four-speed gearbox, with right-hand control, incorporates a special power take-off, giving an enclosed drive to the Dennis patent multi-stage turbine pump, mounted immediately above it, and necessitating the dividing of the driver's seat into halves. This arrangement, of course, leaves the rear part of the frame perfectly clear, so that the rear entrance to the inside-type body is unimpeded.

Four men can -he accommodated on each of the longitudinal seats forming hose boxes, as well as storage for stand

pipes and other. gear. Behind the driver's seat is a reel carrying 120 ft. of hose. The leads to and from the pump are arranged so that there is a suction

and a main delivery on 'each side. On the off side a the machine thee steel brackets support a 30-ft. ladder.

Second Men on Trailers.

The County Councils Association has decided that, inasmuch as section 17 of the Road Traffic Act necessitates the employment of attendants for tsailers drawn by locomotives, in the -interests of public safety it is logical that the attendants should render the most effective service. The Association again requests that a regulation should be made under section 34 requiring the provision of a communication cord.

A few days ago Lord Harewood opened at Rotherham the new Herringthorpe Valley Road, which provides an alternative route from Sheffield to Doncaster. The new highway cost £90,690.

Gas Experiments at Glasgow.

In the annual report of Glasgow Corporation's gas department, it is stated'. that the chemical department had been successful in producing a suitable fuel for use in the municipal buses and that important developments might result from the preliminary trials. The problem of carrying cylinders of cornpressed gas and renewing them at wayside stations was still being studied.

Rates for Wolverhampton Haulage.

The highways committee of Wolverhampton Corporation recommends that the following be engaged for motor haulage, as required, at the rates mentioned :—Mr. W. Arrowsmith, one 1-2-tonner, 3s. 6d. per hour ; Mr. G. Shelley, One 1-2-tonner, 3s. 6d. per hour ; Mr. L. Richards, one motor not exceeding 1 ton, 3s, per hour.
