A T the head depot of Reo Motors 111.. (Britain), Ltd., at Beavor Lane, King Street, London, W.6, a simple and valuable tool is now employed for obtaining an accurate adjustment when assembling brake shoes after re-facing, etc. It is particularly suitable for hydraulic brakes in which an eccentric adjustment is provided at the fulcrum end of each shoe.

The tool consists of a deep collar which is integral with a lever arm having a radial slot. In the slot is

fitted a jaw and, by the loosening of a screw handle, this jaw may, be moved up or down the arm. The collar is fitted over the stub axle or rear-axle tube, the jaw is adjusted (by marks at the side of the slot) to the requirement of the particular size of brake, and, by rotating the tool around the axle, an accurate circle is described, by means of which each shoe may be finely adjusted.

Such a tool enables brake shoes to be assembled or adjusted so that the maximum available area of the facings is brought into action when the brakes are applied, thus avoiding the inefficiency which always results from maladjustment of either the heel or the toe of a brake shoe.

Needless to say, detachable sleeves are necessary to enable the collar to be fitted upon axle tubes or stub axles of different diameters, and at the Reo works such sleeves are available for every model of Reo chassis.
