• Road Tankers Northern has moved from Sheffield to a new 3,340m2 factory close to J36/M1 at Platts
Common, Hoyland, Barnsley. RTN's 35-strong mainly exCharles Roberts/Kenning workforce produces road tankers for the petro/gas and chemical industry.
• ABB-Henschel has developed a rail wagon with air operated body demounting gear that obviates the use of special cranes for transferring standard swap bodies. Its WAS system can operate from any open railhead where the rails are set in a concrete roadway.
• Salford Van Hire has ordered 39 MAN trucks including 20 18.373 tractors, 12 L2000 7.5-tanners and seven M90 17-tonners. The deal follows a two-year trial period.
• Rental company United Kenning has ordered 475 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and 25 7.5-tanners. The deal includes 208D and 308D models with standard and high-roof vans, tipper and Luton body conversions. Deliveries will be phased over the next year.
• MAN Truck and Bus will open a new franchised dealer in Exeter at the end of May. Frank Tucker Commercials will cover Devon and Cornwall from its 14-acre site next to the M5. Tucker is currently an ERF main dealer with resources including a 12-bay workshop, four pits, test bays, broke testing areas, parts for a broad range of trucks and trailers, a new truck and trailer wash, body repair and spraying facilities, diesel bunkering and service and recovery vehicles.
