• MAN is launching its own design 19-tonne tri-axle brewery truck on the UK market, and is working with Whitbread on an 11.6-tonne version. The heavier vehicle, which is run by Munich brewer Lowenbrau in Germany, began life as a 14-tonne 4x2. MAN has added a mechanically steered air-suspended tag axle which raises its unladen weight to 5.5 tonnes. This increases the payload and reduces loading height.
The 19-tanners are assembled in Germany under MAN supervision and using MAN components, MAN's Robin Woolcock told delegates at this week's BTAC conference in Coventry. The 11.6-tonner, based on a 10-tonne 4x2, has a trailing non-steering tag axle. The front axle is rated at 3,600kg, but the rear axles are fitted with 16in tyres and plated at 4,000kg. A payload of six tonnes is possible with a curtain-sided body.
