Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The falling bank interest rate has been a boon for the removals industry, which enjoyed a surge in enquiries over Easter. NFC company Pickfords says the "slide has stopped" and is predicting a 10% increase in business this year.

"The first-time mover is coming back," says the British Association of Removers, pointing to a renewed interest in house buying. "In many parts of the UK business is picking up," it says, "although Wales and the West Country continue to be weak."

"There is reason to believe there will be a modest pick-up," says Pickford's marketing director David Muir. "Easter enquiries have been very good and these turn into business in summer, our busiest period." Muir believes that "the corner has been turned" but points out that the predicted "10% — top whack" increase this year must be set against a 40% decline over the past two years. Burke Brothers of Wolverhampton says: "Enquiries are starting to go through the roof" because houses are selling again. "We will be turning work down," says owner Gary Burke — the company has bought three firms in the past 18 months.

Like Pickfords, Glasgow-based Express Removals expects a 10% upturn in business.
