Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Road transport managers will no longer be able to resort to the time-honoured excuse of not having enough time for training with the launch of a new, flexible, selfmanaged training programme specifically designed for managers in the road transport industry.

The programme, called the MD90 Supported Open Learning Programme, is the brainchild of the Road Transport Industry Training Board and has been put together with the help of the prestigious Henley management college.

The aim of the programme is to make training and management development accessible to all managers — especially those running a small business who can never take time off from work to attend a long, formal course.

MD90 is split into eight 'series' with up to six modules in each series. Each module costs 05 and takes between 10-12 hours to complete, depending on the learning capacity of the user. Supervision can be done by the boss or an external 'supporter', provided by the RTITB. Managers can work at their own pace and ignore the parts not relevant to their jobs.

RTITB's Pamela Marshall says the idea of the programme is to build on skills rather than knowledge. Parts of the first two series included modules on maintaining discipline, solving problems, making decisions, managing people and setting up budgets. "This country is notoriously bad on training," says Marshall.
