Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Transport Secretary John Moore is resisting pressure to reveal the prices paid for the 30 NBC subsidiaries that have so far been sold off.

He told MPs this week that the Government was standing by last year's decision to protect the confidentiality of individual sales so as to ensure that the proper benefits went to the tax payer.

Pressure to reveal the figures came from Shadow Transport Secretary Robert Hughes, who said that there was "continuing disquiet" about the price obtained for the subsidiaries. The Government's reticence was firing speculation that the companies were being sold off at artificially low prices and with great possible capital and investment opportunities, he claimed.

The Government plans to reveal full details of the sales total once privatisation has been completed.
