I see from the April TGWU Record that national bus group secretary Larry Smith is asking why the PTAs haven't been engaging in the extramural money-making activities permitted by the 1968 Transport Act to help finance bus services. Larry thinks the PTAs could run garages, hotels, restaurants and car parks, own land, municipalise taxi services, go into luggage and parcel freighting, open warehouses and so on.

Fred Mulley is to be asked to tell the bus bosses to " take their business fingers out."

I just wonder if Mr Smith first checked with his union's taxi-driving members and those in the NEC parcels companies!
