G. D. Gates (Unigate Ltd, Woking) has been elected chairman of the South Eastern Counties division of the FTA. D. Alvarez (Watney Mann (Southern Counties) Ltd, Brighton), G. R. Smith (Kinloch Provision Merchants Ltd, Burgh Heath) and L. E. Fox (John Harvey (Nonington) Ltd, Dover) are vice-chairmen.
C. J. Waller, having reached retirement age, has resigned as a director of The Proprietors of Hay's Wharf Ltd, and as chairman of Ross Chemical and Service Co Ltd, and is succeeded by J. L. I. Cranston.
Clive G. Bryant, 37, chief engineer of Cumberland Motor Services, becomes chief engineer of Trent Motor Traction.
A. B. Phillips, 42, becomes principal investment assistant in the treasurer's division of the executive finance dept of London Transport. Mr Phillips joined LT in 1972.
Dr J. A. Beaumont has been appointed director of research of the Institute of Grocery Distribution.
John Field has retired as docks manager of the Manchester Ship Canal Company after 50 years' service. P. A. Mackenzie has been appointed chief accountant of the West Midlands PTE. Latterly he has been financial director and group company secretary in the building and civil engineering industry.
J. Cunvood (Rediffusion (Yorkshire) Ltd, Hull) has been elected chairman of the FTA East Riding division. R. Pedelty (Reckitt and Colman, Hull) and G. Burrows (Stewart, Esplen and Greenhough Ltd, Hull) are vicechairmen.
David Lawrence, south-western region manager of Plaxtons, becomes sales manager in succession to Frank Bloom, who has left the company.
