PRESSURE is to be exerted on the Government to obtain greater freedom in bilateral agreements with France, West Germany and Italy. Mr G. C. Alliston, of Walter M. Hatton Ltd, of Eastleigh, Hants, chairman of the RHA's international group, said at the group's agm this week that difficulties and frustrations were continuing as a result of a shortage of permits to those countries.

Mr Alliston welcomed the increase in the number of EEC permits available to British hauliers, particularly now that they can be used more freely. "Withdrawal of the UK from the EEC would have a serious impact in this respect," said Mr Alliston.

Mr Alliston revealed that the RHA is discussing with the DoE what more can be done to counter the use of forgeries without unduly hampering legitimate international operators The Association doubts whether the powers of the International Road Haulage Permits Bill now before Parlia ment are sufficient to deal witl the increasing use of forgeries
