PACKING CHANGE INCREASES BODY SIZE

riA FURTHER order for 20 Claymore lightweight delivery vans with underfloor oil engines has been placed by W. and R. Jacobs (Liverpool), Ltd., with Albion Motors, Ltd. A low floor for the cab provides a one-step entrance.

Earlier vehicles built for Jacobs were limited to a size which would accommodate a predetermined number of carefully packed biscuit tins. Recently, however, the company have been replacing the tins by non-returnable Fiberite eases of different capacities. The new van bodies will therefore be built to the maximum size that the chassis will allow.

SEMI-TRAILER PRICES CUT

NEW production techniques at the Watford works of Scammell Lorries, Ltd., have made possible significant reductions in prices of semi-trailers. The models most affected are the 10-ton and 11-ton standard straight-framed semitrailers equipped with retractable undercarriage and automatic coupling gear for use with four-wheeled tractors. Their lengths vary from 20 ft. to 25.ft. and they are supplied with flat platforms or with 18-in.-high hinged and detachable sides.

Price reductions range up to 3.6 per cent. Tractor-trailer units can normally be supplied within 14 days of the receipt of the tractor at the works.
