curtainsider rig ids to save fuel
THE FIRST curtainsider rigid from the Bevan Group [s hoped to save Lancashire-based Moorhouse's Brewery more than 5% on fuel.
David Grant, managing director of the Burnley-based brewer and pub operator, says: "With a rising number of aerodynamic semi-trailers on the roads, it made sense that the Bevan21 design would work on a rigid curtainsider, too. We're hoping to achieve fuel efficiencies of about 5%, but it is early days yet."
The rigid version was tested by CM (5 February), and produced a 15% fuel saving. The curtainsider version, fitted to a 12-tonne Mercedes-Benz Ategc, has a curved roof at the front and a moulded air deflector and cab collar.
Even though exact fuel efficiency has yet to be established, Grant is already prepared to add more Bevan21 bodies to Moorhouse's six-strong fleet.
He says: "We'll be replacing two vehicles with 7.5-tonne and 16-tonne rigids."
MoornouseS is also investing £3.5m In a 1,000-barrels-a-week brewery, and says if growth continues at an expected 15% per annum, it will expand its fleet even further.
