Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

r ood luck to London VILorry Ban victim Tim Griffin in his appeal against such a ridiculous fine (CM 39 September),

Barry Hornet of the Lorry Control Unit condemns himself in your story

First he admits that the £630 fine is a lot for a smaller haulier (and all for breaking the ban by just 15 minutes). Then he says there are no plans to review the level of fines—so he knows they're too high, and evidently doesn't care.

And Mr Hornet blithely remarks that the LCU is making a review to find new "sensible" routes.

Would it really have been so hard to come up with sensible levels of fines and sensible routes from the start?

I support the protests being made over the rip-off level of fuel duty—particulady the demos—but it's high time the trade groups put their heads together to fight the London ban, or at least press to get it run properly! Peter Black,

Biggin Hill, Kent.
