Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Walker Brothers, Limited, of Wigan, continues making. the " Pagetield " wagon, and is supplying some locally. A large engineering compalW like this should find it pay to enter the lists boldly.

I hear excellent accounts down in Lancashire of the Critchley-Norris steam vehicles. These arc fitted with Lune Valley boilers, and are mo,c economical in fuel. In another week or so, one of our staff hopes to have the opportunity of observing one on a day's

run, and it will then be Possible to give a detailed report concernjog it.

The " Airedale " van, made at Leeds, would appear to be progressing satisfactorily. The makers have altered the van to take 30 cwt., as they found users consistently overloading the one-ton vehicle, A new back axle on very sound lines has been designed, and it begins to look a most businesslike proposition.

Business must bo settling down again with the brewery fraternity. I

hear of orders being placed, and I saw, in Sheffield the other day, a new Fiat lorry loaded up with barrels from Bentley's brewery.

A smart repairing job was accomplished, at Mann's steam wagon works, at Leeds, last week. I was going through the works, and happened to observe a hybrid sort of wagon just have the finishing touches applied, and, in reply to my enquiries, I learnt that a Coulthard wagon was brought in on the Wednesday, at mid-day, and it required a new Mann's boiler, all the brake gear altering to suit, and new brackets forging for same, besides numerous small alterations, all repainted spick and span, and ready to be fetched on Saturday at noon. This is about a record—three days for all this labour—and it shows what can be done by good organisation and working with a good will. If any other wagon builder, steam or petrol, can give me a similar or better example than this I shall be most happy to record it. Mann's, too, seem to be full of new work ; I also saw ready for delivery three five-ton wagons, all repeat orders, respectively, for the Rhymney Brewery Company, Rankin and Sons, Rochford, and Marriage and Sons, Colchester, as well as two two-ton wagons for Geo. Hattersley and Sons, Limited, of Keighley. The last-named company, some two years ago, had a petrol van constructed for its own use, and contemplated making them for sale, and I had an interview at Keighley concerning this, but it would appear as if the scheme had been abandoned.
