• A Leestershire driver was left stranded in Italy after his employer sacked him for having asylum seekers on board despite his pleas for tighter security on the company's vehicles.
Graham Messenger claims that he is one of a number of British dnvers who have been dismissed from Italian haulier Fanchin over immigrant problems.
Two years ago he was found to have two stowaways in his trailer. He complained about the lack of security but the company continued to ship vehicles across the Channel without TIP cords or padlocks.
In July Messenger was travelling from Calais to Dover, and following immigration checks five stowaways were found in his trailer. After an interview with immigration officers he was told that there would be no further action against him; any paperwork was just a formality and his employer would be informed.
In August he returned to Italy accompanied by his young daughter. and after making one drop in Milan he was told by his boss to go to the yard in Alonte. On his arrival his boss Giorgio Fanchin took his truck, con phones, credit card and him 10 minutes to leave.
Messenger says: "Li an English driver gave rni my daughter a lift to Berl airport, where we had hour wait and then a flight followed by a £75 fare. I just hope Fanchin home and proudly told hit and kids how he had dumi 14-year-old English girl ii middle of nowhere."
No comment on the m has been received by F despite attempts by CM.
