THE DAIMLER chassis prepared by Dennis as a mobile test-bed for the components to be used in the company's new design of rear-engined decker Is now on the road and has been offered on loan to three Passenger Transport Executives in northern England for tests.

Dennis sales director John Jackson told CM that the company's aim was to give the bus "a thorough bashing in arduous conditions" to ensure the compatibility of the Gardner engine and Voith transmission and to find the vehicle's fuel consumption over a variety of routes.

Dennis foresees no problems over the recertification of the bus and expects it to be h service in about two weeks time.
