THE British Association of Removers has protested to the Foreign Office because firms were given only 12 working days to submit tenders for the new contract for packing personal effects of Foreign and Commonwealth Office staff in the London area.

The BAR complained that some companies had not been sent the tender documents, despite having undertaken Foreign Office work for many years.

A NEW subsidiary was inaugurated by Harold Wood and Sons Ltd in Hull last week. Harold Wood, part of the National Freight Corporation, has started Wood International Forwarding Ltd to provide a service for other NFC companies with Continental interests. The new company offers a service for goods documentation clearance and representation to Europoort and Zeebrugge.

AN OVERNIGHT express parcels service, linking London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow was introduced by Kwikasair Ltd last week.

A 24HR RADIO controlled commercial vehicle recovery service operated by Midlands BRS Ltd was completed last week with the opening of a new radio centre at Wolverhampton. It is linked to other stations at Oxford, Swindon and Worcester which opened earlier this year. Coverage is claimed to extend to all parts of the Midlands.

A £200,000 depot was opened this week by Mercedes Benz truck dealer Spartrucks Ltd at Stevensons Close, Portway Industrial Estate, Andover. It is additional to the company's existing premises in Wickham Road, Fareham and covers Hampshire and Dorset.
