vOLLOWING the order for 100

I A.E.C. Regal Mk. III buses received in November, 1950, A.C.V. Sales, Ltd., has received a repeat order from Baghdad Passenger Transport Board. The new order is for 100 Regal Mk. III single-decker chassis and 20 Regent ML 111 double-decker chassis. All the bodywork is to be made by Park Royal Vehicles, Ltd.

The single-deckers will be similar to those already in service in Baghdad, powered by 9.6-litre engines and fitted with sliding-mesh four-speed gearboxes. These features are specified in the double-deckers, which will have a wheelbase of 16 ft. 4 ins., compared with 17 ft 6 ins, for the single-deckers.

GLASGOW FARES UP BEFORE HEARING

LAST Sunday a new fare scale was La introduced on the trolleybus services operated by Glasgow Transport Department. The effect of the change is to create a 2d. minimum adult single fare. Permission for the variation was granted by the Minister of Transport, from whom a letter was received noting the corporation's proposals, but making no objection. The changes were therefore put into effect.

On Wednesday, the Scottish Licensing Authority considered the corporation's proposals to advance motorbus charges. The effect of all the revisions is to augment revenue by £275,000 a year, of which £250,000 will accrue from tram, trolleybus and underground fare advances put into effect last Sunday and earlier. An inquiry into the trolleybus charges may yet be instituted by the Minister.

The specialsub-committee considering the proposals of the general manager, Mr. E. R. L. Fitzpayne, to reduce expenditure, also met last week. It agreed to the suggestions to apply for revised fare stages, so that two stages represent just over a mile, to negotiate with the trade union to increase the permitted number of standing passengers per vehicle, and to authorize Mr. Fitzpayne to discuss with three of four concerns suggestions to institute incentive schemes in the workshops.
